7 Ways You Can Lose Weight and Keep it Off!

Saturday, March 7, 2009

If you're one of the millions of Americans who have struggled with their weight, you've probably tried to lose those extra pounds....and you probably did....only to gain them back again!

It's time to put an end to the yo-yo dieting and the New Year's resolutions that were never resolved! Follow these 7 tips and you'll begin to lose weight and keep it off!

1) Stop counting calories!---Believe it or not, when you restrict your calories your body goes into a kind of "starvation mode" slowing down your metabolism. Your body doesn't know that you have cabinets and refrigerators filled with food. It needs to hold onto that energy....by storing it as fat!

2) Don't skip meals!---Skipping breakfast is the worst! Your body hasn't been fed in 9 or 10 hours....talk about going into "starvation mode!" Skipping breakfast is a one way ticket to fat storage city!

3) Eat "Slow Carbs"---Foods like potatoes, rice, white bread, and candy bars have a high "glycemic index," meaning they cause an immediate spike in your blood sugar levels.....your body says to itself, "Give me a break! You're not going to use all of this sugar for energy!" and it stores most of it as fat. The secret is to eat "low glycemic" carbohydrates and foods high in fiber. Some of the best information on low glycemic foods can be found in Dr. Shari Lieberman's book "Dare to Lose."

4) Get off the "sweet stuff"---Not only do sweet foods spike your blood sugar levels, they also harm your body's ability to know when you've had enough to eat....You don't believe me? Watch how many candy bars and Mountain Dew's most kids will absorb given the chance! You think they need all that food for energy?!?

5) Move your butt!---Like I said before, if you're not using energy your body knows it! Instead of sending those calories (energy) to your muscles where they can be used, it will store them as fat! This doesn't mean you have to spend 3 hours a day at the gym...just go for a walk after dinner!

6) Pump some iron!---Muscle burns calories....even when you're not exercising! If you've gone on a meal replacement or calorie restricting diet in the past, you're now fatter than you were when you started! You lost weight as "calorie burning" muscle and regained it as "dead weight" fat! Do some strength exercises and start to get your metabolism back!

7) Relax!---When you get stressed out your body goes into "fight or flight" mode, causing it to release a bunch of glucose (sugar) into the blood stream for an immediate burst of energy. Since you're probably not trying to run away from a lion, or kill a gorilla with your bare hands, your body is not going to use that glucose for energy. Guess what it's going to do?...That's right...store it as fat!

With all these calorie restriction diets, sugary foods, and sit down jobs, many of us have become "metabolically challenged" over the years. Follow these tips and you'll be on your way to getting your metabolism working again so you can finally lose weight and keep it off!

Detox Cleansing Diet - Losing Weight Has Never Been Healthier!

Sunday, March 1, 2009

The Master cleansing diet is the most well known of the detox cleaning diets and works wonders. This is the one that Hollywood tried to keep secrets, and even celebrities like Beyonce have used it to lose weight and become healthier. It is time you learned about all the benefits of a detox cleansing diet.

These benefits are very important to your overall health. They can completely transform your physical life and make you feel a lot better. Here are a few of the top benefits of detoxing.

The first benefit you will notice will be more stamina and energy. This one is a big deal and you will notice it pretty quickly after you complete your detox. You will be cleaning your body of all the sludge in it so you will feel less weighed down and more energetic. Plus the energy you are helping to create will also help you heal better.

Believe it or not, but having more energy will also give you more time. You will be able to complete things faster saving you time. Plus you will no longer require a ton of sleep. What would you do with a couple extra hours a day?

Another benefit of a detox cleansing diet is a renewal of your health. When you get sick you stop eating as much and you flush your body with liquids. This is a similar strategy to detoxing and it helps clear your body of toxins. It will also allow for more healing energy to be used where you need it the most.

The renewal you will experience will change your overall health by leaps and bounds. This is something that is known to be used for healing with athletes and others as well. It will allow you to recover from chronic soreness much faster as well.

The third benefit is very important. You will increase your motivation, focus and self discipline. Doing a detox cleansing is not exactly easy and many will fail. However, when you complete your cleansing you will have gained focus, self discipline, and it will be a way to test your motivation.

The last thing you will experience is the most important, Weight Loss!. This one will get most people to at least give a detox cleansing diet a try. This is because you will be able to lose as much as 20 pounds and most will lose between 5 and 7 pounds. This is done by flushing out the things your body does not need and allowing your body to feed off the fat on it for about 10 days.

Strategies for Weight Loss: Strategies for Dining Out

Thursday, February 19, 2009

There are multiple strategies for dining out. Here are a few for your consideration:

The issues around dining out are based on behavior and environmental problems. After you have decided to go out for a meal, stop. Take a minute or two and actually think about where you truly need to go versus where have been programmed to go. What this means is most of us have dining habits for lunch we end up going out to fast food that is unhealthy, fattening and ultimately depressing. Think about the myriad of dining choices out there. From Mexican to salad bars, from Chinese to freshly made deli sandwiches.

The first step in dining is to pick a wiser choice of food groups. The second step if possible is to go with a friend or loved one. The idea being just order only one meal and split it with your dining guest. By doing this you will save money, eat less and eat healthier.

The third step in dining out is before you stop and eat the meal take a second or 2 to think about what would taste better than what you are about to eat. The goal of this is to take the internal charge and desperation off of the food that you are eating. Remember, when working with strategies the idea is to be exposed to many of them and for you to choose the 3 or 4 that are best suited to you and your lifestyle. The strategies will work for all the people all of the time, however not all of the people need all of the strategies. It is up to you to choose which feel and are the most useful for you.

Another strategy is to stop when the full button hits. When halfway or ¾ of the way through the meal there will be a point when you are not hungry; when the food need has been satisfied. At this point stop eating. Put everything in doggie bags and take it home or to work so in a few hours if you start feeling hungry again the rest of your meal is available to you. Remember, it is much better to have many small meals instead of one huge meal of the same size.

Lose Weight Diet Plan

Wednesday, February 11, 2009

Prepare to lose 10 pounds! By paying attention to the amount of food you eat, eliminating unnecessary sugar and fat from your foods and making sure you include absolutely delicious meals and snacks to keep your taste buds happy.

Most easy-to-use weight loss programs use a balanced and flexible diet. Arrange to, however, first by focusing on losing the first 10 pounds and then shoot for the next 10 pounds.

You need to lose weight by keeping track of what you eat. Cut out fats by eliminating butter, margarine, mayonnaise, oil from your sandwiches and food preparations. You don't have to write down the calorie count, but write down what you eat.

Use skim milk and make a habit to drink tea. If you insist on using whole milk at least use two percent milk in your diet. This helps cutting down on your fat intake.

Be certain to include legumes, peanut, cottage cheese, chicken, fish, eggs or yogurt. Try to constrain your sugar treats to a few times a week max. Eat one or more meatless lunches and dinners each week.

Eat fresh in season fruit twice a day. Stay away and draw the boundaries on sugary fruit juices and have water or drink tea instead. Add a slice of lemon for some zest if you like. Eat more vegetables with lunches and dinner so you have at least 4 servings a day.

Choose one to two servings of foods made from whole grains with every meal. Shut off the TV whenever you eat meals and snacks. Studies show that we automatically eat larger portions when we snack in front of the tube, and typically those foods are high in fat and sugar, which means excess calories!

Choose calories you can chew that means only calorie-free beverages (except for milk). Sodas are abounding with empty calories, and fruit juices provide less fiber and vitamins per calorie than the fruit they're made from. Plan ahead for meals and snacks so you know exactly what you plan to eat. Last-minute choice tends to be higher in calories and lower in satisfaction.
